Barzan Gas Project, Qatar
The Barzan Gas Project will play a significant role in meeting Qatar’s rising energy demand as a new air and seaport are built, planned transport, health and education projects take shape, and last but not least, the country hosts the 2022 football World Cup. The project will produce and process gas from Qatar’s North Field for use by power stations and industries in the country, ethane for the country’s petrochemicals industry and liquid hydrocarbons for sale into local and international markets.
The drilling platform to supply the Barzan Gas plant will be located 80km north-east of Ras Laffan Industrial City. The project itself will be developed in two phases with Train 1 coming on stream in 2014 and Train 2 following in 2015. Together they will supply around 2 billion standard cubic feet of gas per day.
NES Global Talent and the Barzan Project
We currently provide and supervise engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractors working on the project in Qatar and locations further afield including South Korea, Japan and Malaysia. We have been involved in recruiting multi-discipline engineers to oversee EPC work in Korea and the float over of facilities to offshore Qatar.
There is an increased demand for engineers with liquefied natural gas (LNG) expertise and experience and while the Middle East is home to some of the best engineering talent in the world, demand is outstripping supply.
To overcome the skills shortage, and ensure projects are staffed with suitably skilled personnel at every stage of the project lifecycle, we access our global talent pool. The fact that we have more than 35 offices across the world, means we are there, on the ground, offering full support to clients and candidates working on the multi-country and multi-stage Barzan Gas Project.
The roles we are recruiting for include:
• Health, safety and environment (HSE) manager
• Safety, health and environment (SHE) advisor
• SHE / loss prevention engineer
• Construction manager
• Project manager
• Startup / simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) advisor
• Senior engineer
• Lead piping – mechanical engineer
• Project control engineer
