Lead Naval Architect

A major Certification oil and gas Company in Aberdeen is looking for a Lead Naval Architect to join their team on a staff basis. The ideal candidate should have a broad knowledge of floating units of all types (and in particular those related to hydrocarbon extraction) coupled with experience in design and analysis aspects of hull structures and mooring systems. Candidates with an understanding of the methods used to derive site specific loadings from metocean data would be preferred. Knowledge of relevant codes and standards related to such systems is considered essential.
Assessing design compliance of hull structures and/or mooring and anchoring systems related to floating units and review of supporting analysis reports;
Support activities related to consultancy in areas of mooring and structures
Taking commercial responsibility for the work.
Contributing to business development and tendering activities with respect to operational and new construction contracts.
Providing support services to assist builders, designers, owners and colleagues in the interpretation and application of the relevant rules and regulations.
Represent Company to external clients, regulators and other stakeholders.
To pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness
To mentor/coach other employees, as appropriate, to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
Qualifications & Experience:
Degree or equivalent qualification in Naval Architecture with strong design expertise gained in the field of marine/offshore Classification and Verification services.
Chartered Engineer status or equivalent.
Significant appreciation of moorings and hull structural hydrodynamic and fatigue issues, particularly in relation to permanently moored systems.
An understanding of the procedures and practices of Classification as applicable to the upstream industry.
Experienced in structural analysis of floating structures.
Experienced in design appraisal of floating structures including oil tanker hull structures
Knowledgeable regarding codes and standards relating to hull structures and mooring systems, Classification Rules, SOLAS and MODU codes including national authority requirements.
Strong project management skills.
Strong commercial awareness.
Good relationship builder, client focused with (both internal and external) client management skills.
Excellent communicator both written and verbal.
It is anticipated that short stays elsewhere will be a necessary part of the role as will some element of travel.
