Maintenance Engineering Manager - Based in the Merseyside Region - Permanent Position - £NEG + Benefits (Company Car or Car Allowance) or short term contract 6 months whilst finding a permanent candidate.
To lead the Maintenance Department to maximise plant and equipment availability and reliability, so that the Company can deliver the business strategy, at an economical cost, whilst achieving the highest standards of environmental, health and safety performance
Health, Safety & Environment
Ensure safety management systems are implemented throughout the engineering department and driving a `safety` culture. Responsible for achieving the highest safety standards and eliminating LTAs in department.
Control operational performance to enable delivery of annual production targets and associated plant KPIs.
Ensure WCM methodology is embedded and used as the key process in identifying and prioritising plant losses and initiating continuous improvement, delivering against the annual cost deployment matrix.
Manage and drive WCM systems down to the engineering team - basic tools (QK, OPL, 5S, tagging) and the Professional Maintenance pillar.
Deliver and control the maintenance spend and monitor/report against budget
Ensure that all maintenance operations are effectively planned and organised, including repairs, down days, and projects (both electrical and mechanical). Define planned maintenance requirements for the year and ensure preparation of down days.
Manage a communication system with other areas of the plant regarding maintenance issues, so that appropriate action can be taken.
Benchmark maintenance practices, performance and costs against clients plants and other industry equivalents. Achieve and exceed minimum benchmark reference values and implement best practice
Responsible for managing the performance of days engineering team
Responsible for developing the above team through regular reviews.
Through appropriate management style, foster a culture of engagement, commitment and continuous improvement within the plant, coaching and developing a leadership style amongst the management population that will support this culture.
Manage employee relations issues up to the level identified in grievance and disciplinary procedures.
Support the Plant WCM route map in the formation of the plant business strategy and play a key role in delivering against the strategy.

Internal : All site employees, Other plant Engineering Managers, Plant Manager, Production Manager, Logistics Manager, Quality/Env Engineers, leadership team, group central functions
External : Suppliers, Customers
Budget accountability: C. £1.04M (areas covered in manufacturing cost base)
Financial Authority level: up to £1K on purchase orders
Degree qualified Chartered Engineer or equivalent
WCM Instructors Course (if internal)
WCM practitioner (AM, PM, FI, CDM)
Good IT skills, especially Excel for data analysis
Experience in managing engineering teams within a unionised environment (Plant size >100 people), and driving continuous improvement, ideally in a WCM environment. Ideally experience in Professional Maintenance would be advantageous.
Role requires someone with a high degree of numeracy and analytical skills, using data analysis and statistics to identify plant losses and stratifying data down to root cause.
